Asking when to visit France to play golf is a good question. Roughly speaking, considering the climate in France, the best period is from April to October. However, a more targeted approach needs more regional information.

But you must also consider summer holidays. During this period, the tourist areas as well as the golf clubs along the seaside are very popular.

1- Paris and Ile de France

If you choose to play on one of the 6 best golf courses around Paris,  July and August are the best months. Excluding July and August, you’ll be quite challenged to play such renowned venues, such as Saint-Cloud, La Boulie, Saint-Germain-en-Laye.

 Since 2018, The “Albatros Course”, headlining event of the Ryder Cup in France is ever more in demand. You will need to book a few days in advance due to the increasing number of impassioned players from around the world. 

2- Normandy

In addition to July and August,  June is the annual commemorations of the June 1944 landings in Normandy. It is notably more active than April, May, September, and October. 

So, if you want to play the famed Omaha-Beach golf courses or the other 5 best courses on the Normandy coast, it’s a good idea to keep these useful pointers in mind.

3- Pays Basque and Silver Coast

In the Pays Basque, around Biarritz and the Silver Coast, winter greens don’t exist, even from November to March.

Note, there are even possible and rare snow periods. 

In addition to pleasant temperatures from March to November, one can surely anticipate crowds and challenging traffic, especially the seaside, during July and August.

Aside for December and January, the region is particularl crowded on weekends, throughout the year. So it’s preferable that you plan your golf outings for weekdays. 

Located along the Pyrénées’ mountains, the Pays Basque and Silver Coast presents highly dynamic weather patterns. In other words, don’t forget to pack your rain gear !

4- Loire Valley

Due to pleasant climates during spring, summer and autumn, the attractive period to visit this region is from April through September.

Week-ends can be crowded in May and September.

5- Opal Coast

Like the Loire Valley, Opal Coastline enjoys alluring all year round, except for winter.  The ideal period to visit from April to October. Even though you may experience some rainy days, your extraordinary oceanside golf outing will be preserved by the highly absorbing sandy soil fairways.

So, pack your bags and clubs knowing that even though weekends can be crowded, know that it ‘s positively playable.
